A real Christmas tree farm is the stuff of dreams around here. Alas, traditions can still be made and ours begins with 3 hot cocoas, a latte, and one coffee before our annual search for a skinny tall Fraser Fir from a tree lot in the city. You can bet your bottom branch we didn't leave there without a couple spills. Speaking of searching, I was thankful my search for a perfect maxi skirt with equal parts stretch and silhouette had ended. Because its all about the silhouette. And the chase for my 3 year old in a maze of Christmas trees was about to begin. And as we left Starbucks, I realized that beyond the hot chocolate and inevitable spills, I am thankful for the more grown up conversations we're having surrounding Advent and the meaning of Christmas. Back home, with the tree lit in the background, I snuggled #2 and #4 in the rocking chair while the oldest and her brother traced letters and thought, this is it. I don't think I could trade these simple sweet moments for anything. Well maybe a one way ticket to 350 days of sunshine. Just kidding. A new tree, lots of snuggles, and way too many spills in one day is just how I like to start the Advent season. I just didn't know it till now.
